With delicate touch and a sound deeply rooted in traditional jazz influences, Yueyang Chen is an emerging jazz pianist active in both China and New York. His compositions and playing style blend elements of blues and modern jazz.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Performance, he is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Jazz Studies at New York University. He has studied under renowned jazz pianists Yoko Miwa, Ben Paterson, and Kevin Harris, as well as legendary drummers Lenny White and Ari Hoenig. In 2023, he was honored with the Jazz Performance Achievement Award from his school.
Leading his own band, Chen has performed original and rearranged works across China and internationally, including projects like "MonkBook" and "Echoes Ensemble" during their 2023 China tour. In 2024, as part of the Siena Jazz Workshop, he had the opportunity to collaborate with jazz greats such as Miguel Zenón, David Binney, and Phillip Dizack.
Before dedicating himself to music, Chen graduated with a degree in Economics from University College London (UCL), where he first discovered jazz during his studies in the UK. Grounded in traditional jazz yet constantly pushing the boundaries of his playing and composing, he is carving out his own voice and audience among the new generation of jazz musicians.
